BIG NEWS: VOMs break away from TAC

 

As of September 30, 2021, our small family of Virtual Open Mics (VOM) has officially separated from Tony's Acoustic Challenge (TAC).  Although this may sound like a sudden, controversial and concerning surprise to some, it was actually a planned separation that was mutually agreed upon between Levi (representing TAC) and me (representing the VOMs) back when TAC changed their focus in March of this year.

6 months later, our VOM reach expanded to non-TAC members and former TAC members. As these numbers will assuredly grow, I thought it best to complete the separation, hence the link in the TAC forum to our VOMs has been removed and our VOMs now exist independently.

Although our separation may sound concerning to some, in actuality, it is freeing for the VOMs.  Many external options are now open to us in terms of where we want the VOMs to go.  We can experiment more with guest artists, guitar lessons, outside resource sharing, etc.  Our direction may depend on where our participants lead us and that this program becomes more of a community effort. We hope that you all continue to support as many of our VOMs as you can.  You can easily link each of our blogs together through hyperlinks in each of our blogs.  

I wish to emphasize that our relationship with TAC is still strong and is still one of mutual admiration and respect.  This separation is NOT a result of any argument or fall out. It is simply a situation where different goals are at different ends of the spectrum.  I still encourage VOM performers to post their recordings on TAC if they wish.  If anything, we can do some reverse advertising in that when you post a VOM performance on TAC, add a note in your post about the VOMs and include a link to one of our blogs.  Remember, all TACers, new and old, are always welcome at our VOMs.
